A community for the people who actually wrench

A digital community for the people who actually wrench. Magazine, forum, and commerce in one mobile-responsive home.

Grassroots Motorsports case study hero

The shape of the problem

Grassroots Motorsports has one of the most loyal enthusiast communities in print. Their digital home didn’t reflect that. The audience was hardcore (readers who build, race, and turn their own wrenches), and they deserved a site that respected them.

What I built

  • Mobile-responsive framework. Designed for the garage, not just the desktop.
  • Community-driven content surfaces. Forum threads, magazine articles, and product reviews all sharing one cohesive UI.
  • Subscription & commerce integration. Paywall, subscriber states, and a clean checkout that didn’t get in the way.
  • Django back-end. Content architecture built for editorial velocity.

What it did

Sustained engagement with an audience that doesn’t suffer half-measures. The site became the digital extension of the magazine, not a competitor to it.
